Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has officially declared his departure from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing internal crises and political divisions within the party.
In a heartfelt statement, Obi clarified that his decision was not driven by personal grievances against respected figures such as Senator David Mark, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, or other party leaders, whom he continues to hold in high regard.
Obi expressed deep frustration with the way integrity and discipline are often misinterpreted in Nigeria’s political landscape. He questioned why prudent management of resources—particularly when directed toward critical sectors like education and healthcare—is frequently mislabeled as stinginess, and why humility and adherence to the rule of law are mistaken for weakness rather than recognized as discipline.
He stressed that his political journey is not fueled by desperation for titles such as President, Vice President, or Senate President. Instead, his passion lies in building a society where mothers can find consolation after losing children to kidnappings or violence, where displaced citizens no longer live in IDP camps but return to their homes, and where no Nigerian goes to bed hungry, uncertain of their next meal.
Obi’s announcement has sparked widespread reactions online, with many interpreting his words as a call for a renewed focus on values, justice, and the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
