A United States Congressman, Riley M. Moore, has disclosed details of a high-level meeting with the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, where both leaders discussed strengthening diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the United States, as well as growing security concerns in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region.
Moore made this known on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, via his official social media page, while sharing photographs of himself alongside Governor Mutfwang.
According to the lawmaker, the meeting was both meaningful and productive, focusing on ways to deepen bilateral cooperation between both nations, particularly in tackling security and economic challenges affecting vulnerable communities.
In his post, Moore specifically highlighted the ongoing persecution of Christians in Plateau State and other parts of Nigeria, noting that such issues remain a major concern for international partners.
“It was an honor to meet with the Governor of Plateau State in Nigeria, @CalebMutfwang, yesterday.
We had a meaningful and productive conversation about deepening the ties between our two countries.
I remain committed to working with the Nigerian government in coordination and cooperation to address these security and economic challenges, especially the persecution our Christian brothers and sisters face,” Moore wrote.
The Congressman further commended Governor Mutfwang for his efforts in protecting Christians and other vulnerable populations in the Middle Belt, offering prayers and words of encouragement.
“God bless you, Governor, for what you do to protect Christians and other vulnerable populations in the Middle Belt,” he added.
For several years, Christians in Plateau State and other parts of Nigeria have reportedly come under repeated att@cks by unknown t€rrorists, leading to l0ss of lives, displacement of communities, and destruction of homes and farmlands.
These persistent insecurit¥ challenges have drawn international attention, with human rights groups and foreign lawmakers increasingly calling for stronger protection of religious communities and improved security measures across affected regions.
The meeting between Congressman Moore and Governor Mutfwang signals continued international concern and engagement over the security situation in Nigeria, particularly as calls grow louder for sustainable solutions to end the vi0lence and restore peace in the Middle Belt.
