More chilling revelations have surfaced in the case of 23-year-old Nanpon Timnan, the University of Jos (UNIJOS) student accused of br√tally k!lling his friend and colleague, 22-year-old Peter Mata Mafurai, at Rusau area of Jos, Plateau State.
According to new findings, Timnan, a 200-level student of Agricultural Science, has confessed that he committed the gr√esome act out of envy and jealousy.
During police interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted that he was under the influence of dr√gs at the time of the incident.
Sources close to the investigation revealed that Timnan confessed to carrying out the attack while his friend Peter and two others were asleep in his residence.
He reportedly picked up a weapon and @ttacked Peter in his sleep, leaving the two other guests shocked and terrified when they were awakened by Peter’s screams.
“He confessed that he did it because of jealousy and envy,” a source familiar with the case said. “He also admitted that he abuses dr√gs and that he @ttacked Peter while they were all asleep. It was Peter’s cry that woke the other two who were in another room.”
This confession further confirms suspicions that the k!lling was premeditated and fueled by resentment.
Earlier reports had revealed that Timnan invited Peter to his Rusau apartment under the guise of a music recording project, claiming he had hired a producer from Abuja.
After the @ttack, the suspect allegedly buried Peter’s body in a shallow grave behind his residence, where security operatives later recovered it alongside several incriminating items, including a machete, knife, shovel, and blood-stained materials.
The Plateau State Police Command has continued its investigation into the case, which has sparked widespread outrage and deep sorrow within the University of Jos community.
Students and residents have described the ¢rime as one of the most d!sturbing incidents to occur in recent years, calling for swift justice to ensure that the late Peter Mata Mafurai’s d£ath does not go unpunished.
